West Usk Lighthouse, built by the Scottish architect James Walker, at the junction of the estuaries of Rivers Usk and Severn, was originally on its own island, but luckily for guests, it is now possible to approach without getting your feet wet.

The lighthouse is on two floors with a diameter of 50 ft and walls nearly 3 ft thick. The slate-bedded entrance hall leads to a central spiral stone staircase over the original well that provided drinking water for the keepers.

The first floor bedrooms are arranged like wedges of camembert around the perimeter, each room having a slightly different outlook over the low lying marshes and rivers. Steps lead up to the roof garden and the 15 ft diameter Lamp Room, where you can get the full 360 degree view.
