Your Hosts: John and Nancy Hampson
The wealth and pomp of Empire shines through in this Victorian Gothic wedding cake of a building. Constructed in 1857 as a Divisional Magistrates Court and Police Station, Nancy and John have now given the building considerable chic.
Outside it retains its sombre yet exuberant exterior but inside the transformation is remarkable - modern colours, stained glass, spectacular bathrooms, Jacuzzi and Sauna.
Guests
can use both the cells and the Magistrates' Court, a magnificent baronial room
nearly fifty foot long and almost as tall. It is approached via a grand entrance
hall and sweeping staircase designed originally for the dignitaries - the public
had an outside stairway and the felons came up from the nether regions by a dank
stone stair which still emerges through a trapdoor. If you avoid a custodial
sentence, try escaping to nearby BATH where you can take your partner to the Roman
Baths - but don't try bathing or you will find yourselves in very hot water. The
Thermae Spa is the place to go if you want a little steamy frolickingl BRISTOL
is a similar distance away and gives you another, though less intimate, watery
experience in the "Floating Harbour" particularly if you have over indulged
at one of the many waterfront bars and nightclubs and take a trip too many! Other
places with potential :- Wells, Wookey Hole Caves, Frome, Cheddar Gorge, Longleat,
Stourhead, or if you really like planes Bristol Airport.
