A very special find ideal for walking in the Black Mountains, with Hay Bluff less than two miles away, just a stone's throw from the Welsh border. Xenophobes note, Llanigon is on the Welsh side! The Old Post Office is simply a "first class" conversion, which could hardly be bettered, though the only reminder of its days with the Royal Mail is the Georgian post-box by the front door - rather eccentrically still emptied twice a day despite the change of use.
The lounge has replaced what the locals called 'the shop', and a winding oak treaded staircase leads up to the kind of bedrooms you will never want to leave. No problem - you can be posted out feet first in a pine box using the coffin flap thoughtfully built above the stairs. Rich ochre walls, lovingly restored rural welsh furniture, fabulous food - vegetarian of course - and wide-ranging views of welsh mountain sheep grazing the Black Mountains.
The Old Post Office is also available for self catering. HAY-ON-WYE, the biggest second hand bookshop in the world is just down the valley and the Brecon Beacons only eleven miles away.
