The Dovecote

If you're the sort of romantic who has the urge to shower your lover with a thousand roses, perhaps you could go one better with eleven hundred doves. Sorry - the birds have flown the coop, or been eaten! Inside the three foot thick walls, the potence remains, a technical term for the central post and ladder - very important when harvesting squabs for breakfast. Dovecotes come in all shapes and sizes - this one is octagonal and impressively large, with quatrefoil windows and tufa stone banding, contrasting with the exposed red brickwork inside.

Without the doves, peace reigns within. The interior has a split personality, half as left by the doves, the remainder ultra modern steel timber and glass. Lovey-doveys will find all they could wish for, including a sauna and a double shower to cool off afterwards. If you decide to fly free, Oxford and the Cotswolds are both a short flight away.
